MATTHEW FORD
Writer / Producer
Matthew is a gifted screenwriter with a talent for writing snappy, engaging scripts. In 2016, Matthew co-founded Watchers Productions, a non-profit production team, which creates web content and short films, writing episodes for comedy drama series Whovians (nominated for Best Web Series in 2017’s UK Online Festival). Between 2017 to 2019, Matthew wrote a number of sketches with Watchers Productions for the comedy series Sketchy AF, including “Foul-mouthed agony aunt” (an agony aunt on a ‘This Morning’ style show with no regard for TV etiquette) and “Radio Diva” (a singer for local radio ads thinks he is Wales’s answer to Mariah Carey). Matthew’s science fiction short Brand-New Beginnings (co-produced by Dramatic Moose Productions and Watchers Productions) was shortlisted for 2020’s BAFTA Cymru-affiliated Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, Lift-Off Global Network First-Time Filmmaker Sessions, and 2021’s Swansea Fringe Festival.
In 2022, Matthew’s comedy short, Heaven’s Overrated, was selected for the It’s My Shout scheme, with the film broadcast on BBC Two Wales and available to download on BBC iPlayer.
Matthew’s unproduced scripts have won and been nominated for awards. Ghost story All Alone, Not by Myself won Best Horror Screenplay (Short) in 2019’s Grim North Screenplay Festival. Comedy horror Killing the Music was nominated for the same award the following year, as well as being a finalist in 13horror.com’s short screenplay competition. Matthew’s comedy short Would-Be Hero was nominated for Best Unproduced Screenplay in 2020’s Monkey Bread Tree Film Awards.
