Matthew is a gifted screenwriter with a talent for writing snappy, engaging scripts. In 2013, Matthew wrote episodes for comedy drama series Whovians (nominated for Best Web Series in 2017’s UK Online Festival). Between 2017 to 2019, Matthew penned several sketches for Watchers Productions’s comedy series Sketchy AF. Matthew’s science fiction short Brand-New Beginnings was shortlisted for 2020’s BAFTA Cymru-affiliated Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, Lift-Off Global Network First-Time Filmmaker Sessions, and 2021’s Swansea Fringe Festival.
In 2022, Matthew’s comedy short, Heaven’s Overrated, was selected for the It’s My Shout scheme, with the film broadcast on BBC Two Wales.
Matthew’s unproduced scripts have won and been nominated for awards. My Child, Matthew’s first feature film script, won Best International Feature Film Script at Horror Hotel Film Festival 2025, was a Screenplay Festival 2025 finalist, a semi-finalist in Midwest Weirdfest 2025, and shortlisted for the British Horror Film Festival’s Blood List 2024, which “celebrates screenplays of outstanding quality”.
His ghost story All Alone, Not by Myself won Best Horror Screenplay (Short) in 2019’s Grim North Screenplay Festival. Comedy horror Killing the Music was nominated for the same award the following year, as well as being a finalist in 13horror.com’s short screenplay competition.
