RHYS JONES
Director / Editor / Writer / Producer

With nearly two decades of experience in post-production since 2006, I have contributed to a wide range of high-profile television productions for all major UK broadcasters. My work spans diverse genres, including notable shows such as Stella, Kiri, 15 Days, The Tuckers, and Doctor Who.
I have held key technical roles, including Technical Supervisor at Avanti Media, Technical Lead, and currently Online Editor at Gorilla (part of Boom Cymru), Wales' leading post-production facility.
Beyond my day-to-day work in broadcast post-production, I am an active director, producer, and editor of independent content. In 2017, I participated in the prestigious BBC It's My Shout scheme, where I directed the short film Rory Romantic. The film aired on BBC Wales, was available on iPlayer, and screened at international festivals including the Fargo Fantastic Film Festival, Cardiff International Film Festival, and the 2018 New York City International Film Festival—where it won the Best Sci-Fi Short Film Award.
As a co-founder of Watchers Productions, a non-profit Cardiff-based collective, I help create web series, short films, and other content. I have directed several projects for the group, including the web series Whovians, which earned a Best Web Series nomination at the 2017 UK Offline Web Fest.
Our current output includes a slate of short films released on our Strange Tales YouTube platform, focusing on twist-in-the-tale stories that champion low-budget filmmaking in South Wales. These projects have achieved strong festival recognition, including:
-
A Best No Budget Short nomination at the Wales Film Festival 2020
-
Best Comedy and Best Ensemble Cast awards at Florida's FantaSci Short Film Festival 2021
-
Best Sci-Fi Short award at London Shorts 2021
-
Selections (and qualifying status) at the BAFTA-qualifying Carmarthen Bay Film Festival in 2020 and 2021
Additionally, my editing work on the short film The Midnight Jester received a Best Editing nomination at the 2018 FEAR International Horror Film Genre Awards.
