Hello - we have a lot to catch up on!
It is a VERY busy time over at Watchers, we will run down what is going on and what you can do to help us!!!
OK, first off, let's look at the current slate of projects and then we will look at the future, which is overlapping!! Just after COVID hit the world we announced our next season of Strange Tales - it was the next phase of production and what films we were going to produce. That slate of films has finally wrapped production; it has been a long few years of various challenges - both personal and professional, with many ups and downs. But we have finally wrapped Season 3 of Strange Tales. So far three of the five films have been released, Just Meat, Dinner Date and Locked. They are all free to watch now. Individually, each of them have done well so far, been watched by a large number of people and have been accepted into a number of festivals.
The final two films of this batch are in post production. All Alone, Not By Myself (our animated Tale) is now in the process of being coloured and background art being created. A release date is not set as of yet - work will continue well into 2027 on this project.
Chapter Two - this is in the very final stages. Currently it is in the process of having its sound mixed; this is the last bit of work that needs to be done before it will be released in the next few months.
We have released Smoky Water, a special extended scene as a teaser for Chapter Two. This film within the film has been released as a teaser for what is to come and also a way to showcase the hard work of our guest actors Victoria George-Veale and Matthew Doman who gave us a morning of their time to create this scene.
In Chapter Two, this is playing in the background of another scene, The madness of filming is that scene with Victoria and Matthew was the first thing we filmed on the project and then a year later the final thing we filmed was the scene where the film was playing on a TV in our film!
On top of these two films in post production, we have in the last few weeks had confirmation for a new performance of TWINKLE. Terrance Marshman-Edwards is back for one night only at the Cardiff Theatre Café on August 25th - Tickets are on sale now.
So with these two films in post production - what else have we been up to at Watchers?
Well - a lot.
The biggest news in the last few weeks is - we are producing a feature film. For our first feature we are making a (As Yet Untitled) Strange Tales Anthology.
The feature film is going to be a portmanteau/anthology film, similar to movies like Dead Of Night (1945), Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), and the V/H/S franchise (2012-present). Each member of the Watchers team has written a short film; these three shorts will be presented along with an overarching wraparound story to create the full feature.
In a meeting room at the headquarters of a prestigious horror film festival, the jury is convened to watch the nominees for Best Short Film. Over the course of the day, as each of the individual shorts are screened, tensions run high, true agendas are laid bare, and the jurors come to realise that- when it comes to horror- reality can often be so much stranger and more terrifying than fiction...
We plan to film the feature in four blocks over the next couple of years; we are all working professionals with full-time jobs, so this is an unpaid side project for everybody involved. Block one starts shooting this coming Saturday (8/8/26).
Broadcaster Erin Flint has made her living by being an unapologetically right-wing provocateur, and she has landed an exclusive one-on-one interview with a very special guest: Lucifer himself. Written by Matthew Ford and directed by Rhys Jones, The Devil’s In The Detail is a tense, bloody drama. Matthew has won several awards (including Best Horror Script [International] at the 2025 International Horror Hotel Film Festival) for his scripts, whilst Rhys was chosen to be part of the BBC’s It’s My Shout scheme in 2017 to direct the short film Rory Romantic, which won the Best Sci-Fi Short Film at the New York International Film Festival.
The cast includes Sarah-Louise Tyler as Erin, Jenn Cooper as Rachel, Lucas Eisele as Sam, and A.J. King as Lucifer.
Filming will take place in Cardiff during August and September 2026 which includes two days at Llanrumney Hall, which is our primary location.
Currently we have a crowdfunder running, which is in its final days and if you can help that would be amazing.
You might be wondering why we are asking for funding, when things are already so far along the production schedule?
Well, the project is being self-funded, as virtually all of our projects have been.
Our cast and crew very generously give their time for free, and any equipment or props needed are either borrowed or paid for by the three of us. Llanrumney Hall is a stunning venue and will really add production value to the short, so any monies raised will recoup some of that initial outlay, cover any equipment, props, or costume required, and to help cover cast and crew expenses.
Plus, if you were kind enough to donate, you would be helping to support a grassroots South Wales-based production company in our next endeavour to entertain.
We also want to be transparent from the very start – this is a long-term project, projected to take a minimum of two years to complete the four blocks of filming and all post-production work required. Therefore, please be aware that certain rewards may take some time to become available and/or be sent out to backers. For example, any on-screen name credits will only be delivered when the full feature is completed.
